How to use Sumifs Function in Excel

How to use Sumifs Function in Excel

One of the most common methods used by office applications is Excel. In our everyday lives, we must use Excel to achieve our professional goals. It makes no difference what career direction you've chosen. Entering quantitative data into an electronic spreadsheet is used to perform mathematical computations. When computation is performed on them, they are converted into meaningful knowledge. This data can be used to make both technical and personal decisions.

Uses of Excel

In Excel, you can conveniently keep track of your personal details, such as how much money you spend on household expenses. Are they within budget? Alternatively, you must maintain equilibrium. This was for making personal life choices.

Let's look at a professional example: a cosmetics company. Your staff will hold a sheet of your transactions. There may be additional factors, such as how much inventory to purchase or the need to minimize revenue.

Excel has several commands in tabs, such as file, home, insert, page layout formulas, analysis, display, and data in the ribbon tab.

Features of Excel:
  • Multiple rows can be added
  • Flash fill
  • Pivot tables
  • Absolute references
  • Add header and footer
  • Find and replace command
  • Data filtering
  • Built in formula
  • Protection of passwords

It offers a wide range of features that we can use in the process. Almost 37 million people use Excel, with 53 percent using it on a regular basis.

Benefits of using Excel
  • Through this students can easily analyze data that is visually represented.

Jobs you can get as an Excel user:

Sumif function:

It is an Excel function that meets a single condition and sums the values that match this criterion. Criteria must be right in the sum result; otherwise, if criteria do not fit, it will not perform any feature (error appears). When calculating the sum of numbers, the condition must be within the range.

Formula:

SUMIF(range, criteria,[sum_range])

Range:

Range of cells according to criteria

Criteria:

Satisfied condition

Sum range:

If the condition is satisfied, then add.

Sumif is a feature for text, date, and numeric data. It is possible to limit it to a single column at a time. To test the function, a condition will be applied. If the range is not within the parameters, an error (value) will be shown. For matching sentences or phrases, a wildcard will be used. When text contains numeric values, double quotation marks will be used. It also addresses the issue of operators.

STEPS:

  • Type data by selecting cells
  • Add formula in formula bar at the top
  • Select cell you want to add, put formula
  • Press enter

SUMIF vs. SUMIFS
  • By using SUMIF, we can only evaluate one condition, while the SUMIFS formula allows us to evaluate several conditions. The main distinction between the two Excel functions is this.
  • SUMIFS is available from MS Excel 2007.
  • The SUMIF function can only be used to add a single continuous range based on a single defined range and a single criterion, while the SUMIFS function can be used to add several continuous ranges
Formula:

SUMIFS(sum_range,criteria_range1,criteria1,[criteria_range2,criteria2])

Steps to perform:
  • You have to make a table in new worksheet.
  • Apply sumifs function for getting total of criteria’s
Solution to problems:
  • Select one cell having numbers, text and CTRL+SPACE for selecting the whole column.
  • Using value function have to convert numbers into values.
  • Then paste the value.
  • You can also overcome it by just pressing f9 (opening workbook)
