According to Wikipedia, Printing
is a process for mass reproducing text and images using a master form or
template. Printing is usually defined as the process of applying a certain
amount of ink/paint under pressure to a certain surface to produce a body of
text or artwork/graphics.
The evolution of printing has
evolved from its conventional mode and as by innovation has seen a variance in
the mode and display of content. current techniques for duplicating texts and
graphical illustrations, on the other hand, are not dependent on the mechanical
notion of pressure or even the material notion of ink/paint. Printing should
presumably now be described as any of many ways for reproducing texts and
pictures, in either black and white or coloured, on a surface, and in multiple
related copies, because these processes constitute a significant advance that
may eventually replace the previous methods.
In today’s article, I would be
drawing up details on the two major types of digital printing technologies and
some valuable insights into printing.
A good number of people have been
acquainted with some printing terms as Screen printing, Laser Printing, and
Inkjet printing respectively, however, the place of its uniqueness and
proficiency is much more vital. Take, for instance, a Laser printer could serve
as a household printer for some relative quantity, however, in the place of
large production, there is a need to reconsider.
When it comes to printing, there
are 3 main processes, they are:
The Digital printing process
employs the mechanics of the toner as against the traditional ink/paint and
conveys graphical or textual information from an electronic device to the
printer. One of the perks of Digital printing is that one can access and print
remotely, provided there is an internet connection and a printer at sight.
Considering its from being digital, you can easily make corrections or modify
where necessary to serve new deliverables.
This mode of printing has been
around for a while now, hence a well-accepted mode of printing. It requires the
use of mesh and some stencil in which the intended colour of inks/substrates is
carefully applied separately to the surface of the material.
This is a process of printing
that finds application in the case of large production. It requires having the
graphic work inscribed on metal printing plates which are then transferred to a
rubber blanket and down to the intended surface of the material. Offset
requires a good investment of work and time hence is not considered for small
quantity production.
This mode requires the
xerographic technique to transfer the image and colour to the paper. The toner
is added to the paper in a thicker form which births a glossier appearance in
production.
The key players for this device
are Xerox, Ricoh, Konica-Minolta, and Kodak.
This is a type of printing that
recreates a digital picture by allowing droplets of ink to be applied to paper
and plastic substrates. Inkjet printers are widely used in homes and workplaces
because they range in price from low-cost consumer versions to high-end
professional equipment.
Digital printing is the new age
form of printing that requires less hands-on task once given the graphic/texts
to work with compared to Screen printing which cannot be altered and requires
to be done all over where there is a need for correction.
Digital printing can be conducted
anywhere, provided there is an internet facility and a printer to do the work.
Offset printing finds application for large production of
prints; although its process may be a bit of a task since you would require to
work on the metal plates, its output is always top-notch. Digital printing on
the other hand can be created and printed right on the spot but is not
advisable for the very large volume of printing. In the case of modification,
Digital is still better considered, as Offset would require another process of
work before the adjustment is reviewed and corrected. For more information
